True Story.

Customer walks into my French Connection.  Spots this dress:

Girl:  OH MY GOD, THAT IS SUCH A MIZRAHI KNOCK OFF

Crystal (the store manager): Um . . . no, it's not.  We don't do knock offs here.

Girl:  It totally is.  I spotted it from across the mall.  It's DEFINITELY a Mizrahi knock off.

Crystal:  Trust me, it's not.

Girl:  Um, I know my Mizrahi anywhere. And it IS a Mizrahi knock off.  Scurries off into the sunset.

Me:  What was that about?

Crystal:  Some girl who thought that dress was a Mizrahi knock off.  I didn't want to tell her that it would be MISSONI anyways.  It would be embarrassing.

Me :  She's dumb.

I've decided to add a little more personal style to my blog.  I think I look pretty cute today, if you ask me.

One of the reasons I'm starting a personal style segment is that I feel like all the personal style sites I see and subscribe to always feature tiny, stick thin girls.  As you can see, I'm not that tiny.  I think its important for women of all ages to embrace the body they've been given and to be confident in it!  

What do y'all think?  Should I keep going with this, or should I keep it impersonal?

Adventures In Shopping

Yesterday I took my little sister to Forever 21 and picked up a few things:

We also went to Aldo and I got the hottest heels ever.  I'm just loving the cutout feel of the leather.  Yay!

Please excuse the bruises on my legs.  I'm a little scrappy.

Christian Siriano for Payless

In February, Christian Siriano debuted his collection for Payless in his Fall '09 show.  The collection was all spikes, reminiscent of the Louboutin for Rodarte shoes, and just plain fab. 

Today, Racked leaked some photos of the same Payless collection.  

The shoes are so, so toned down from what we saw on the runway.  The heels aren't as high or as spiked, there are way fewer chains, and there are no spikes all over the shoes!  Don't get me wrong, the shoes look cute; but, I was totally looking forward to walking down the street in shoes that could basically maim someone.  So sad . . .

The shoes should hit stores in mid-August, and they all should retail below $45.  Mark your calendars!

 

Christopher Kane for Topshop!

Christopher Kane is one of my favorite designers;  his Fall '09 collection was easily one of my favorites of the season.  So, you should be able to understand my excitement when I read on Grazia that he's doing a collection for Top Shop!  The collection hits stores in late August and it sounds like it will be amazing.  Kane says the collection includes bags, shoes, knitwear, and dresses and that it's "full of surprises."  I'm really excited and curious to see some of the pieces.  Hopefully it will be available online.  Fingers crossed!

VPL Needs Interns

NYC based brand, VPL, is looking for production interns for the summer in NYC.  The internship is mostly administrative, with interns working directly with designers and production coordinator.   Interns will also attend fittings and assist on various aspects of design, merchandising, and sales.  

Duties include:

• Research and sourcing fabrics, trims/buttons, etc
• Keeping stock organized
• Assisting with seasonal shipments
• Speccing garments
• Preparing cutter/'s musts and cutting tickets
• Communicating between VPL and factories
• Communicating with dyers, cutters, and various other vendors
• Maintaining quality control in garments

Etro Needs Interns

Etro is looking for a few awesome people to intern in their PR dept. in NYC.  

General duties include:

• Update and maintain press list
• Track samples (check in/out samples, organize shipments, etc)
• Organize press materials (press kits, look book mailings, etc)
• Organize and maintain magazine and video archive
• Maintain showroom appearance
• Research for upcoming projects and events
• Assist with day-to-day office activites

Qualifications

• MUST have an interest in fashion and public relations
• MUST be available at least 2 days per week
• Must have a great attitude, be proactive, hard working, ambitious, and ready to learn
• Must be able to work under deadline, prioritize duties, multi-task, and be organized
• Strong computer skills - primarily Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Great attention to detail and follow-through
• Good writing, verbal, listening, and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrate confidence and professionalism
• Machine friendly: phone, fax, copy machine, and computer

The soon to be re-vamped luxury brand needs sales interns!  Interns start immediately in NYC and work 3-5 days a week, 9am to 6 pm.

Whitney Pulls a Lauren

Does being on a reality show and "working" in fashion makes you a designer?  That's what The Hills girls seem to think.  We've all seen Lauren and Heidi's design efforts, but are you ready for Whitney?  Pictures of her Fall collection for her line, Whitney Eve, popped up on FabSugar today, and I have to say it's not that bad.  It's more on trend than LC's line; and, it looks like there are few, if any, jersey pieces.  That said, it's still not that good.  You could probably buy this stuff at Top Shop next fall AND you wouldn't have the guilt that comes with having Whitney Port's name on the tag.

Shipley & Halmos for Uniqlo

Nylon posted a first look at Shipley & Halmos' Spring capsule collection for Uniqlo. I don't really love any of the pieces in the collection, but they're not bad. The collection hits stores May 7th. I may stop by Uniqlo when I'm in New York this summer to check it out.

Dilemma.

I try really hard to keep this blog about fashion, and not about myself or my personal style.  BUT I'm thinking about growing my hair out, and I'm still not sure.  Your opinions would be much appreciated!

Here's my hair now:

Its not as curly as it was before I started coloring it, so I've already decided to stop doing that.  But should I grow it out, or keep it short?
